Earlier this week, Republican lawmakers in South Carolina took the first in a series of steps toward making their already draconian abortion law—which currently prohibits the medical procedure after just six weeks, with exceptions for rape and incest—even worse: a total ban, except in cases where the mother’s life is in jeopardy.
